Rim Fire 2

Aug 26

The plumes are 40,000 feet high.. The fire has split into 3 major blazes..we were evacuated from crane flat this morning..

Bridal veil camp ground in about. 7400 ft higher in elevation than crane flat which is at 6200 (check that) ft  the trees are lodge poll pine and the air way cooler. At night you can see your breath.  It got down to 36… Degrees.

Bridal veil is beautiful with most sights bordering a meadow. I was amazed to see deer just meandering through the camp about dinner time.  Probably  lots more bears up here in the high country although  one thing, most of the berries grow in the valley.  We all know how bears love berries.

It is the end of summer and the bears must eat about 30,000 calories a day to prepare for their long winters sleep.

This Rim fire will keep killing long after the flames are gone as many animals will not get enough to eat before winter hits.

It’s about 6:30 am on the 27 th it is really cold and I can see my breath in the air. I am snugly and warm in my tent under my down blankets and north face coat. I am waiting for the sun to come up a bit more and warm the air, that usually happens between 7 and 8 am.

It is a longer drive into the valley , but I will be going to swim in the Merced and get ice and just sit in the splendor of my beloved Yosemite   I want to stay till the fire is out but I know I must begin my journey home soon.  I am praying all day under my breath and sending love and support to the trees and all the creatures of this amazing place.  I know that must sound a bit crazy  to some but every inch of this earth is alive, every blade of grass breathes, every drop of water gives life in. Some way.
Every step I take in Yosemite is walking in a sacred temple..

2013 Yosemite Adventure – Rim Fire

Ahhh Finally home in my Yosemite. The sky is blue and the air crisp and all the sounds of late summer is music to my ears. I arrived on the 18th. I heard there was a fire that had started just a day ago… The fire lookouts were keeping an eye on it but it was far from the Yosemite borders. I went about my daily walks and swims in the Merced River. My camp is perfect and I am set for a wonderful visit with this sacred valley.
Rim Fire Aug 25, 2013
The rim fire is now the largest fire in the us. Calif. has declared a state of emergency and the top fire fighters in the nation are now here fighting the fire. It started aug 17 and the cause is Under investigation. But feared it was set by Careless campers. Yesterday we drove up to the crane flat fire look out and took some amazing and horrifying photos. My heart was breaking as the billow of smoke plumed hundreds, maybe thousands of feet in the air.  Tears welled up and i found myself  weeping for this terrible loss.
This is a hot destructive fire storm that has so far destroyed over 150,000 acres and yesterday burned its way into Yosemite.  30,000 acres have gone from this sacred place and last night the ranger told us a part of this fire has broken off and heading for white wolf.. They must hold the line at white wolf or we will all be evacuated.

I am praying ..we are praying…please help by closing your eyes for a moment and pray with us for a quick resolution of this fire. Let the winds calm and the showers fall and lay this fire to rest. Protect  all the creatures of the forest that have lost their home and for the many who have lost their life. Protect and give wisdom to the 2500 fire fighters now in harms way….Protect the great grove of sequoias that are now in peril  for this we pray..amen. And so it is….
